Sumud’s statement on Iran

On Friday March 20, the Finnish government issued a statement where it pretends to care about Iranian attacks on civilian targets. If the Finnish government were concerned about civilians and international law, it would stop supporting Israeli-US war crimes.

In addition to bombing Iran, Israel has ethnically cleansed over one million people in Lebanon, and the Finnish government has nothing but praise forIsrael.

Israel continues the genocide in Gaza, and the Finnish government keeps pouring money into Israeli arms companies that are active participants in it. During the genocide, Finland has paid almost €80 million to the Israeli state company Rafael for David’s Sling.

The Israeli-US war on Iran has nothing to do with liberating Iranians, like the US war on Iraq was not about liberating Iraqis. Israel and the US attacked Iran because, its government opposes the Israeli apartheid regime and does not fit into US plans for economic hegemony in the region.

At Sumud, our solidarity is with people, not with governments, parties or factions. Palestinians, Iranians, Yemeni, Lebanese, all people deserve freedom. All people shouldoppose the US-Israeli attacks in Iran, Palestine and Lebanon, which bring nothing but death and destruction to millions of people.

The war of aggression against Iran is the result of decades of impunity for escalating Israeli crimes, culminating in the genocide in Gaza. Rather than upholding international law, European governments, including Finland, have supported Israeli colonialism and apartheid.

This war shows how the liberation of Palestine is tied to peace and justice in West Asia. While the mainstream media keeps obfuscating the main issues, it is clear what we should do.

End Israeli impunity. Stop arms trade with Israel, impose boycotts and sanctions, bring Israeli war criminals to trial, support international law and decolonisation.
