27 March 2024 – TAMPERE
Welcome to PUBLICS, Helsinki, on Wednesday 27 March, 6-9pm for the film screening of Tale of the Three Jewels. Arabic with English subtitles.
After the film screening Layan Dajani will give a short talk in English on the Tale of the Three Jewels and put the film in the historical context of the occupation and the First Intifada.
The Tale of the Three Jewels was directed by Michel Khliefi in 1994 and is the first feature film to be entirely shot in the Gaza strip. Set during the First Intifada (Arabic for “shaking off” or “uprising”) the film uses a mixture of realism and fantasy to tell the story of Youssef, a 12 year old Palestinian boy who is trying to win the love of a girl named Aida.
The event is organised by Yasmin Ibrahim and Dominic O’Hagan, in collaboration with Sumud – The Finnish Palestine Network – and Kairos, a community project producing and hosting cultural events in Helsinki.
