{"id":7293,"date":"2025-09-11T00:01:00","date_gmt":"2025-09-10T21:01:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.sumud.fi\/toimintaviikonloppu-israelin-kansanmurhan-osallisuuden-pysayttamiseksi-18-21-9\/"},"modified":"2025-09-09T11:02:47","modified_gmt":"2025-09-09T08:02:47","slug":"toimintaviikonloppu-israelin-kansanmurhan-osallisuuden-pysayttamiseksi-18-21-9","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.sumud.fi\/en\/toimintaviikonloppu-israelin-kansanmurhan-osallisuuden-pysayttamiseksi-18-21-9\/","title":{"rendered":"Weekend of Global Disruption of complicity in Israel\u2019s genocide, 18 &#8211; 21 September"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>Palestinian civil society calls for escalating disruptive BDS actions <\/strong><strong><em>now <\/em><\/strong><strong>against complicit states, corporations and institutions, building up to mass disruption from 18 &#8211; 21 September, the UN General Assembly deadline for Israel to end its illegal occupation and apartheid.&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Occupied Palestine, 28 August 2025<\/em> \u2013 The UN-backed Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC) initiative has finally <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ipcinfo.org\/fileadmin\/user_upload\/ipcinfo\/docs\/IPC_Gaza_Strip_Acute_Food_Insecurity_Malnutrition_July_Sept2025_Special_Snapshot.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">confirmed<\/a> that hundreds of thousands of Palestinians living in northern Gaza are suffering from famine. The famine, directly resulting from the US-backed Israeli policy of weaponizing starvation, will affect many more in southern Gaza by the end of next month, the IPC states. No one can claim that they did not know. Even the complicit UN Secretary-General, who has typically expressed nothing but \u201cconcern\u201d throughout more than 22 months of genocide, was compelled to finally mention Israel as the perpetrator of this induced famine.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As a matter of life-or-death urgency, we call for forming broad coalitions and building towards powerful mass disruptions, where feasible, that are context-sensitive, peaceful and strategic, targeting complicit entities and calling for ending complicity and imposing lawful sanctions, particularly comprehensive military and energy embargoes, on any day during the <strong>Disrupt Complicity Weekend, 18 &#8211; 21 September<\/strong>. Examples include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Blocking, occupying or otherwise disrupting strategic highways, bridges, ports, facilities of complicit weapons, tech, media, financial and other corporations;<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Mass protests and peaceful disruptive actions at government offices <\/strong>(ministries of trade, transport, or foreign affairs, for instance) <strong>or <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.brusselstimes.com\/934675\/flemish-parliament-disrupted-by-pro-palestinian-demonstration\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">parliaments<\/a>, <strong>demanding that they comply with their legal obligations under international law<\/strong>. As <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ohchr.org\/en\/statements-and-speeches\/2024\/09\/un-experts-warn-international-order-knifes-edge-urge-states-comply\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">called for by dozens of UN human rights experts<\/a>, these include:<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>imposing \u201ca <strong>full arms embargo <\/strong>on Israel, halting all arms agreements, imports, exports and transfers, including of dual-use items\u201d\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>cancelling or suspending \u201ceconomic relationships, trade agreements and academic relations <\/strong>with Israel that may contribute to its unlawful presence and apartheid regime in the occupied Palestinian territory\u201d<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Joining the <a href=\"https:\/\/thehaguegroup.org\/home\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>The Hague Group<\/strong><\/a>, the most promising inter-state initiative so far aimed at promoting concrete sanctions and meaningful, consequential accountability measures, and endorsing and implementing their <a href=\"https:\/\/thehaguegroup.org\/meetings-bogota-en\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Bogot\u00e1 Declaration<\/a>.\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Expel apartheid Israel from the UN by withdrawing its accreditation to the UN General Assembly and push for lawful sanctions against it similar to those imposed on apartheid South Africa.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/linktr.ee\/staffonstriketoolkit\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Strikes<\/strong><\/a>, where feasible, and<strong> <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/uppsaladeclaration.se\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>conscientious objection<\/strong><\/a><strong> to complicity in genocide<\/strong> in institutions and workplaces, including universities, city councils, among others;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Escalation of boycott campaigns <\/strong>against <a href=\"https:\/\/bdsmovement.net\/Guide-to-BDS-Boycott\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">priority targets<\/a> of the BDS movement \u2014 including peaceful disruption at stores and company offices, as well as social media actions;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Launch broad intersectional campaigns to compel institutions \u2014 including city councils, universities, trade unions, hospitals, etc. \u2014\u00a0 to adopt ethical procurement and investment policies<\/strong>, where applicable, that exclude companies knowingly and persistently involved in grave human rights violations, particularly war crimes, crimes against humanity and genocide.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The UN General Assembly (UNGA) in September 2024 overwhelmingly voted for sanctions on Israel, for the first time in decades \u2014 upholding the International Court of Justice\u2019s ruling in July 2024 that Israel\u2019s entire presence in the occupied Palestinian territory is illegal, constitutes apartheid, and must be brought to an end. The UNGA also gave Israel an ultimatum until <strong>18 September 2025 to end its illegal occupation<\/strong> of Gaza and the West Bank, including East Jerusalem.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Israel has not only utterly failed to end the occupation, it has in fact escalated its depraved genocidal violence in Gaza, including against UN staff and facilities, and dramatically increased land theft, settlement expansion, and attacks on Palestinians in the West Bank. Now more than ever, Israel poses a mortal threat not just to Palestinians but also to humanity at large. Already a year ago, UN Special Rapporteurs <a href=\"https:\/\/www.un.org\/unispal\/document\/un-experts-icj-18sep24\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">warned<\/a>: \u201cThe world stands upon the edge of a knife: Either we travel collectively towards a future of just peace and lawfulness \u2013 or hurtle towards anarchy and dystopia, and a world where might makes right.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Despite the Never Again slogan that followed the Holocaust, the world has failed to stop genocides from Rwanda and former Yugoslavia to Myanmar. Now, all states and inter-state bodies, as well as all institutions, have a legal, not just ethical, obligation to stop the the world\u2019s first livestreamed genocide \u2014 the US-Israeli Nazi-like atrocity crimes against 2.3 million Palestinians in the illegally occupied Gaza Strip. Israel\u2019s 77-year-old regime of settler-colonialism and apartheid is finally trying to \u201cfinish the job\u201d of exterminating the survivors of its ongoing Nakba of dispossession and ethnic cleansing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In this most horrific phase of the genocide, Palestinian civil society is united in reiterating the call on people of conscience worldwide to channel their immense grief and anger to cut the links of state, corporate and institutional complicity with this genocidal regime and with all the institutions and corporations that enable its crimes. <strong>The utmost moral obligation is first and foremost to do no harm, to end complicity.&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We have never been as close as now to imposing a comprehensive and effective sanctions regime. Ever more states and municipalities are moving forward to impose partial sanctions and review ties and contracts. The global majority today stands clearly with Palestinian liberation, and even in states that are Israel\u2019s partners in genocide, like the US, Germany, the UK, the Netherlands, among others, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pewresearch.org\/short-reads\/2025\/06\/03\/most-people-across-24-surveyed-countries-have-negative-views-of-israel-and-netanyahu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">majorities today view Israel negatively<\/a> and support Palestinian rights. They are moving forward an informal, but not less impactful, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.calcalist.co.il\/local_news\/article\/hkxj11vvkge\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">isolation<\/a> of Israel. We need to channel this potential energy into building a critical mass of people power that can <em>compel <\/em>complicit governments, corporations, and institutions to end their complicity.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Never again is truly now. Together, we can and must disrupt all complicity in Israel\u2019s \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.jewishvoiceforpeace.org\/2025\/05\/21\/israels-final-solution-for-palestinians\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">final solution<\/a>\u201d for the Indigenous people of Palestine. Together we can support dismantling Israeli apartheid just as South African apartheid was dismantled.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Palestinian General Federation of Trade Unions (PGFTU &#8211;
