Helsinki: hospital protests
Health for Palestine Finland organises hospital protests by health professionals Monday 8 September from 12 to 13 and Tuesday 9 September from 16:30 to 17:30 . The demonstrations will take place at the Meilahti hospital campus, in front of the main doors of the Tornis Hospital.
The genocide of Palestinians by the Israeli occupation regime continues to escalate. The complete destruction of northern Gaza has begun. Every morning we read about the night terrors that people are experiencing. Many are unable to move to areas that, despite the occupier’s promises of security, continue to be the fate of many Palestinians. The blockade of Gaza has not been lifted and the international media has not been allowed access. The health situation remains disastrous. Starvation leads to daily deaths. Health infrastructure is being destroyed. Direct attacks on hospitals are taking place, killing health workers, students, patients, relatives and journalists.
As professionals and students in the field of health and social services, we want to show once again our unwavering support for the Palestinians, and demand action with all the authority of our position from the Finnish state, its institutions and its citizens. We want concrete action, not empty talk. The genocide and occupation must end. The conditions for a dignified life must be restored in Gaza. We encourage all our colleagues to join us in the fight for justice! We also welcome supportive protesters.
Health and social work clothes are welcome on protesters. Feel free to bring your own sign. The demonstration will be quiet – we will not shout slogans or make any noise that might disturb patient work. Racist, sexist or otherwise discriminatory symbols or behaviour are not permitted. Please bring a Palestinian flag if you wish. To keep the focus on the Palestinian situation, please do not bring other flags.
